Erobu Julius, a dedicated sanitation promoter in Ngora District, has found both purpose and income through his work with Ruta Serenity Initiative (RSI). As one of the 14 trained sanitation promoters under the RSI program, Julius actively promotes improved hygiene practices while selling affordable SATO pans in his community.
With startup capital provided by RSI and LIXIL SATO, Julius was able to kickstart his sanitation business, gaining access to quality products and marketing support.
“I’m happy I can earn something small as I help my people live healthier lives,” says Julius with a smile.
Thanks to his trusted reputation and flexible payment options, uptake of improved sanitation products has soared. He earns a profit of $1.60 per unit and sells an average of 20 SATO pans each month, making sanitation both impactful and sustainable for him and the households he serves.

Through his efforts, over 100 household latrines have been improved in Kapir Sub- County alone, significantly contributing to better health outcomes and cleaner living environments.
Julius stands as a powerful example of how local entrepreneurship, when supported with the right training and startup capital, can drive lasting change in rural sanitation.
