Advancing Clean Energy & Better Sanitation in Schools
At Ruta Serenity Initiative (RSI), we are proud to be helping schools embrace biodigesters—innovative systems that improve sanitation while producing clean, reliable cooking energy. Already, two schools have fully functional biodigesters in place, and a third is under construction. These facilities are reducing firewood use, cutting costs, and creating healthier learning environments.

As with any new technology, the journey has not been without challenges. The beneficiary schools have voiced concerns about being associated with the use of human waste as a source of energy for cooking food. Pupils, parents, and teachers worry about stigma and safety, which is a natural reaction when traditional practices are being reshaped.
RSI is working closely with these communities to build understanding and confidence. Through demonstrations and open dialogue, we show that biogas is safe, clean, and odourless—and impo
rtantly, completely separated from the waste that generates it. In other communities where biodigesters have been introduced, initial hesitation has given way to acceptance once the benefits became clear. We believe the same transformation will happen here as awareness grows and results speak for themselves.
Our commitment remains firm: to advance sustainable sanitation and clean energy solutions that protect the environment and support healthier schools. Each biodigester is more than a facility—it is a symbol of resilience, innovation, and hope for a greener future.
