For two years, the borehole in Koloini Village, Ngora District, was broken. Families walked long distances or fetched dirty water from swamps shared with animals.
“We used to hear of RSI repairing boreholes in other villages,” says Akiru Rose, a mother of four. “We kept praying and waiting, asking ourselves—when will our turn come?”
Hope was fading. “The little money we had for repairs was misused,” Akiru recalls. “I had no choice but to fetch dirty water, and it pained me to see my children suffer.”

Then, change arrived. Ruta Serenity Initiative (RSI) repaired the borehole and trained the women’s Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) to manage it sustainably. For Koloini, the borehole is no longer just a water source it is an answered prayer, a symbol of dignity, and hope restored.
“Thanks to RSI, our borehole is working again, and our women’s group is trained to manage it,” Akiru says with relief. “I feel free clean water is finally back! We no longer walk long distances or risk our children’s health.”
