“For years, I struggled with collecting firewood and choking on kitchen smoke,” recalls Mugume Mark from Ntungamo Village, Kyeizooba Sub-county, Bushenyi District. “Life was tough, and I never imagined a way out.”

That changed when Ruta Serenity Initiative (RSI) introduced the ‘Clean Homes’ campaign to his village. “They taught us about biogas, and I was amazed to learn that the animal waste I had could be turned into clean, reliable energy for my home.”
Through RSI’s partnership with Bold Biogas, the system became affordable—finally within reach for smallholder farmers like Mark.
“Today, my kitchen is smoke-free, cooking is faster, and the organic fertilizer from the system has boosted my banana plantation. It’s a perfect cycle clean energy that feeds both my home and my land,” he shares proudly.

Mark is one of 179 households across the districts of Mbarara and Bushenyi who have registered similar success. Families are experiencing reduced reliance on firewood, improved respiratory health, and increased agricultural productivity thanks to the nutrient-rich slurry from biogas systems.
Thanks to RSI and Bold Biogas, clean energy is no longer a distant dream it’s becoming a rural reality, transforming lives one household at a time.
