🌿 Empowering Households Through Clean Energy in Kumi District

Ruta Serenity Initiative (RSI) recently had the privilege of hosting a joint field visit in Kumi District alongside our benefactors, partners from Bold Energy Uganda Limited, and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to mark the rollout of household biogas digesters.

This milestone reflects more than the installation of renewable energy systems. It signals a strategic investment in clean, affordable, and sustainable energy access for rural households — aligned with national energy transition priorities and community resilience goals.

Beyond Cooking: A Multi-Dimensional Impact

Biogas technology is often viewed as a clean cooking solution, but its impact extends much further. The systems launched in Kumi District are already contributing to:

• Improved indoor air quality, reducing exposure to harmful smoke

• Lower pressure on forests, cutting dependence on firewood and charcoal

• Reduced carbon emissions, supporting climate mitigation efforts

• Production of organic fertilizer, enhancing soil fertility and agricultural productivity

• Time savings, particularly for women and children who traditionally collect firewood

• Local skills development, strengthening technical capacity within communities

These outcomes collectively enhance household wellbeing while contributing to broader environmental sustainability.
