How We Protected Our Land Together
At Ruta Serenity Initiative (RSI), environmental protection has moved from vision to reality. In Kamwenge, Kibaale, and Ngora Districts, rural households depend directly on land, forests, and water, yet these resources face mounting pressure from deforestation, unsustainable farming, and climate change. RSI has already delivered integrated solutions that restore ecosystems while strengthening livelihoods.
Through agroforestry, farmers we trained now successfully combine trees, crops, and livestock on the same land. This has improved soil fertility, reduced erosion, and diversified household income. Families are harvesting fruit, timber, and fodder while protecting their land against climate shocks.
Our established community woodlots in all three districts are supplying sustainable sources of fuelwood and timber, reducing relian
ce on natural forests. Managed collectively, these woodlots have fostered stewardship, protected biodiversity, and provided green assets for schools and health centers.
RSI has also advanced sustainable land use practices such as contour farming, terracing, organic methods, and watershed protection. These measures are conserving soil and water, safeguarding wetlands, and securing long‑term productivity for smallholder farmers.
Beyond land and forestry, RSI has rolled out biogas systems and energy‑saving stoves. These technologies have reduced smoke in households, cut fuel costs, and provided bioslurry fertilizer for farming. Families now enjoy cleaner cooking, healthier living, and improved agricultural productivity.
The impact is clear: communities in Kamwenge, Kibaale, and Ngora have reduced vulnerability to climate change, secured reliable access to resources, and built a greener future. By linking environmental protection with livelihood improvement, RSI has demonstrated that conservation is not a cost but an investment in dignity, resilience, and prosperity.
